866 Kilometers Inside a Shopping Mall

Debora Simas, 55, covered 866.21 kilometers in 168 hours on a treadmill set up in a shopping mall in Florianopolis, Brazil. That is seven days of running, and it clears the previous women's mark by 20 kilometers.

Do the arithmetic and it stops being a number and becomes a lifestyle: roughly 124 kilometers a day, every day, for a week, on a belt that never once changed the view. No aid stations to look forward to, no summit, no crowd corner. Just shoppers walking past a woman in hour 140.

866.21 km in 168 hours. Twenty more than anyone had ever run.

Guinness World Records had not updated the category as of Friday. The record exists anyway, in a mall in southern Brazil, whether or not the paperwork has caught up.
