Fotyen Tesfay debuted at the second fastest marathon in history. Now she wants the record.
Seven months ago Fotyen Tesfay ran the second fastest marathon in history. It was her debut. Most athletes would spend the next two years protecting that number, racing sparingly, letting the legend do the work.
She has added the Buenos Aires Half Marathon on August 23 instead, a tune-up on the way to a planned world record attempt in Valencia.

There is no cautious version of this plan. Either the debut was the ceiling or it was the warm-up, and she has decided to find out in public.
