Jakob Ingebrigtsen came back from the best part of a year lost to Achilles trouble and won his fourth straight European 5000m title in Birmingham.
He had been absent for the best part of a year with Achilles problems. In Birmingham he trailed for much of the race, which is not how the Ingebrigtsen story is usually told, and then won the thing anyway.
Four straight European 5000m titles, the most recent won off a year on the sidelines.
Comebacks are cheap in this sport. Comebacks that end with the same medal you left behind are not. Athletics Weekly had it as the sternest test of his return, and he answered in the last lap.
