From 2027 the Majors hand out 60 finals places instead of 210. Do the math on your odds.
From 2027, only the top 10 men and top 10 women in each distance at the four UTMB World Series Majors earn a direct place at the Chamonix Finals. That takes each Major's allocation from 210 runners down to 60.
210 to 60. One hundred and fifty spots deleted, per Major, per year.
The pitch of the World Series was always that Chamonix was reachable: run your Major, run well, get your ticket to the start line under the Mont Blanc massif. The new math reads differently. Run your Major, finish eleventh, and go home to the lottery with everyone else.
Scarcity is the oldest trick in luxury, and it works because it is not a trick. The finish arch in Chamonix just got three and a half times harder to reach, and three and a half times more worth reaching.
